Story
Riley Hiebert and Ysela Sawatzky met in 2005 as they were in the same class at Niverville Elementary School. They played together at recess and shared mandatory valentines day cards. They remained friends until Ysela moved back to Paraguay in 2009. Years later in 2018 Ysela moved to winnipeg for school at CMU and the two reconnected over instagram. Ysela began hanging out in Niverville on the occasional weekend, their friendship was rekindled, though they remained only old friends.
Everything changed in 2021 when they went on a 6-hour hike. Conversations about music led to sharing music, which led to texting, and eventually Riley worked up the nerve to confess his feelings. While they didn’t feel it was the right time to start dating, they remained friends for an entire year before officially going on a date. In the coming year their relationship grew and deepend, and on January 20th, 2023 Riley and Ysela got engaged!
